Bike Insurance Claim Process

In case of an accident, there will be an inspection of the damage to your two-wheeler, before an own damage claim is processed. You must provide the some documents to the surveyor or any representative of the insurer before or during the inspection.

In addition to these documents, you must fill and sign the claim form. In the case of company-owned vehicles, a signature of the authorized signatory along with the company seal is essential. You also require the following:

  • RC of the bike, self-attested copy
  • Driving license of the driver in case of an accident, self-attested copy
  • FIR, in case of theft, death, or injury
  • If the claim amount is higher than Rs 1,00,000, a copy of your PAN and a passport size photo

This is not an exhaustive list as other documents may be requested based on the requirements of the claim.

How to claim insurance for a bike accident?

If you’ve been in an accident, the first thing you must do is arrange for a medical assistance for anyone who is injured and note down the details of other vehicles and people involved in the accident. Do not commit to any sort of compensation to anyone. If your bike has suffered damage due to riots, strikes, terrorist activities, house breaking, you must inform the police immediately. FIR is also required for any death, injuries or property damage as a result of the accident.

If you are unable to move the vehicle in the event of a severe accident, make sure that the vehicle is safe at the spot. Try not to move the vehicle or start the engine again yourself. Call the insurance company for guidance on finding a repairer and lodging a claim. Do not dismantle or repair the bike until it has been inspected by an insurer-appointed surveyor.

How to claim insurance for bike theft?

If your bike or scooter has been stolen, you must immediately file a police report and inform the insurance company. Also, you must inform your RTO and your financier of the theft.

If the two-wheeler has been recovered by the police, then you can claim the damages caused to your bike or for stolen items that are covered under your policy from the insurer. However, if the bike is not recovered, then you need to get a Non-Traceable Certificate from the police and a 173CrPc order from a court of law and submit it to the insurer to process the claim.

If you have taken up a loan, then the insurance amount is directly settled to the financier. The settlement amount is dependent on the Insured Declared Value or IDV, which is stated in your policy document.
